At the age of 16, Hector began his sports career as a boxer and fought in four amateur matches, all of which he won. This took place in the years 1953/1954.
1955: In this year, Hector started practicing the sport of Weightlifting, and after two months, he became the champion of Curaçao and the Netherlands Antilles in the Bantam category (56kg).
1956: Champion of Curaçao and the Netherlands Antilles in the Bantam category.
1957: Champion of Curaçao and the Netherlands Antilles in the Bantam category.
1958: Champion of Curaçao and the Netherlands Antilles in the Bantam category. Ranked 9th out of 18 participants at the World Championship in Stockholm, Sweden.
1959: Champion of Curaçao and the Netherlands Antilles in the Bantam category. Won a silver medal at the VIII Central American and Caribbean Games in Caracas, Venezuela. Ranked 4th at the Pan American Games in Chicago, USA. During these games, Hector set a Pan-American record in the Clean & Jerk category, which stood for 12 years.
1960: Champion of Curaçao and the Netherlands Antilles in the Bantam category. Won a gold medal at the Central American and Caribbean Weightlifting Championship in Caracas, Venezuela. Ranked 10th out of 24 participants at the World Olympics in Rome, Italy.
1961: Champion of Curaçao and the Netherlands Antilles in the Bantam category. Won a gold medal at the II Central American and Caribbean Weightlifting Championship in San Juan, Puerto Rico.
1962: Champion of Curaçao and the Netherlands Antilles in the Bantam category. Won a bronze medal at the IX Central American and Caribbean Games in Kingston, Jamaica.
1963: Champion of Curaçao and the Netherlands Antilles in the Bantam category. Won a silver medal at the IV Pan American Games in Sao Paulo, Brazil. Won a gold medal in an international tournament in Santo Domingo.
1964: Champion of Curaçao and the Netherlands Antilles in the Bantam category. Won a gold medal in an international exchange between Curaçao and Santo Domingo. Ranked 18th out of 28 participants at the Tokyo Olympics in Japan.
1965: Champion of Curaçao and the Netherlands Antilles in the Featherweight category (60kg). Won a gold medal during ASU week in Aruba. Won a silver medal at the III Central American and Caribbean Weightlifting Championship in George Town, Guyana.
1966: Ranked 4th at the X Central American and Caribbean Games in San Juan, Puerto Rico. Champion of Curaçao and the Netherlands Antilles in the Featherweight category.
1967: Champion of Curaçao and the Netherlands Antilles in the Featherweight category. Won a gold medal in an international tournament for the 4th Centenary in Caracas, Venezuela.
1968: Champion of Curaçao and the Netherlands Antilles in the Featherweight category. Won a silver medal in the international tournament III Lustro Cur. Weightlifters Tournament in Curaçao.
1969: Ranked 4th at the Las Américas Tournament in Mayaguez, Puerto Rico. Champion of Curaçao and the Netherlands Antilles in the Featherweight category.
1970: Champion of Curaçao and the Netherlands Antilles in the Featherweight category. Won a bronze medal at the XI Central American and Caribbean Games in Panama. Hector won 4 medals during these games, marking the first time in the history of weightlifting that medals were awarded for various categories (Press, Snatch, Clean & Jerk, and Total). Ranked 7th out of 16 participants at the World Championship in Ohio, USA.
1971-1974: Champion of Curaçao and the Netherlands Antilles in the Featherweight category.
1974: Hector participated in the XII Central American and Caribbean Games in Santo Domingo.
1975: After being the champion of Curaçao and the Netherlands Antilles in both the Bantam and Featherweight categories (20 years old) and participating in various international tournaments, regional championships, world championships, Central American and Caribbean Games, Pan American Games, and the World Olympics, Hector retired and took on the role of the National Weightlifting Team coach. Hector participated in a coaching course in Caracas, Venezuela, in 1984 and was decorated with the Ere-medalle in Goud by the Queen for his achievements in the sports field.
1976: Hector studied to become a weightlifting coach in Mexico under the auspices of Olympic Solidarity.
1978: Sponsored by Olympic Solidarity, Hector participated in another weightlifting coaching course in Mexico, which he successfully completed. It’s worth mentioning that the records Hector set in the categories he participated in have not been broken by current weightlifters as of yet.
