English Version

 

Wendell began training in athletics at the age of 12. In 1957, the American coach, Dr. John Stotlar from Southern University of Illinois, trained Wendell. Subsequently, for two years, Wendell sprinted with the V&L-TC organization in The Hague, Netherlands, where he practiced 100m, 200m, 400m, 4x100m, and 4x400m running.

 

In 1967, the team achieved the second-place classification in the upper class.

 

In 1968, Wendell became a coach for the Olympic athletics organization, of which he was a co-founder. From 1971 to 1981, Wendell served as the coach for the Antillean Federation. From 1971 to 1994, he functioned as a coach and trainer for the Antillean Federation.

 

From 1971 to 1981, he was the coach and head of the delegation for the Antillean athletics team, participating in the Central American and Caribbean Championships in 1971, 1974, 1978, 1980, and 1986; Pan American Games in 1975 and 2007; Olympic Games in 1976, 1984, 2000, 2004, and 2008; World Championships in Helsinki 1983, Paris 2003, Helsinki 2005, Berlin 2009; Youth World Championships in Canada 1988; World Indoor Championships in Indianapolis 1987.

 

Wendell attended 36 training courses from 1975 to 2014, in countries such as the Bahamas, Mexico, Puerto Rico, Jamaica, Costa Rica, the United States, France, Santo Domingo, El Salvador, Aruba, the Netherlands, and Curaçao. Notably, from 1990 to 2009, he provided a total of 22 training courses in Puerto Rico, Curaçao, Suriname, Tortola, Dominica, Bermuda, St. Maarten, and Bonaire.

 

Wendell trained and coached several international athletes, including Jairo Duzant, Churandy Martina, Ethwinson Luis, Brian Mariano, Curtis Kook, Rachmil van Lamoen, Hensley Paulina, Kim Rossen, Dudly Boeldak, and Nargelis Statia.

 

Wendell received the following recognitions and awards:

 

November 1998: Wendell made the list of “the best lecturers” by I.A.A.F.

March 2004: Best coach of the year 2003 by C.S.F.

April 10, 2005: For the second time, the best coach of the year 2004 by C.S.F.

January 6, 2006: Plaque from the Curaçao Athletics Association as the best coach of 2005.

April 2, 2006: For the third time, chosen as the best coach of the year 2005 by C.S.F.

April 25, 2006: Wendell receives the C.S.F. Award for his 42 years of dedication to sports.

April 27, 2007: Wendell is decorated as “Ridder in de Orde van Oranje Nassau.”

January 1, 2010: Wendell becomes a part of the technical committee of the Olympic Committee of the Netherlands Antilles.
