Hubert “Ibi” Simon Zimmerman was born on November 3, 1951.
Ibi began his boxing career at the age of 15 with his family and friends in the year 1966. They started at the Boca Boxing Club. Ibi made his professional debut in 1974 and achieved numerous victories and championship titles, including those in Curaçao, the Netherlands, Inter America in 1988 in the US Virgin Islands, and the Inter Continental light heavyweight title after defeating Tomas Ruiz Polo.
As one of Curaçao’s first professional boxing champions, Ibi holds a record of 30 wins and only 5 losses. His fights took place in Curaçao, the Netherlands, France, Trinidad & Tobago, Aruba, the US Virgin Islands, and St. Maarten. Ibi competed against opponents from Turkey, Austria, Luxembourg, Belgium, Germany, Slovenia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, England, Jamaica, Algeria, Colombia, Venezuela, the United States, Italy, and the Netherlands.
Ibi’s last two fights were against well-known champions from the Netherlands. In 1981, he won the European title by knocking out Pedro van Raamsdonk. In 1992, he suffered his final defeat against the world champion “Fast Eddy” Smulders. This loss wasn’t a disgrace, as Smulders had 12 more years of experience at the time and was undefeated.
The Zimmerman family from Boca Sami is renowned as a boxing family. Ibi’s younger brothers, Chucu and Cheo Zimmerman, also achieved international boxing titles. Ibi is one of the founders of the Boca Boxing Club, where he is actively involved as a trainer.
