better known as Iby,
Ibi was born on January 12, 1934, at Koningstraat 33 Otrabanda. He moved to live in Orinocoweg 25 in Marchena the same year, where he spent a significant part of his youth.
As his mother enjoyed moving from one neighborhood to another, Iby moved back to his mother’s property on Koningstraat at the age of 5. From there, he attended classes and continued at Wilibrod College until the 6th grade.
Later, Ibi went to Sint Thomas on Hoogstraat. After completing school, he found a job at Shell, working at the “Hoofdkantoor” in the TA/”Tekenkamer” department.
While in Marchena, Ibi, who had showcased his talents as a football player since his time at Wilibrod College, participated in school championships, including Dosco from St. Vincentius School, Vios from Wilibrod College, GSV Geen Schot “Verloren di Wishi,” Staco from St. Albertus College, and other participating schools.
Ibi appeared in the school newspaper several times. He played barefoot and scored multiple goals on KSC fields in Wishi, Groot Kwartier, and others.
Continuing with sports, Ibi played for Sithoc Junior from the ages of 14 to 17 and then moved up to the senior team, Sithoc 1, during a season when Frater Andreas was the president of Sithoc. At the age of 17, he received an invitation to join the Curaçao national team but couldn’t fulfill it due to academic commitments.
At 18, Ibi made it to the Netherlands Antilles national team and participated in the Central American and Caribbean Games in Costa Rica. He played alongside players like Orilio Hato in goal, Fefe de Lanoy, and Kelly from Aruba in defense, Gein Giribaldi, Eddy Vlinder, Cai Helser from Aruba in midfield, and a forward line including Willys Heyliger, Mundu Kemp from Aruba, Ibi Schoop, Yuchi Jansen, and Yandi Brokke from Aruba.
Ibi played against Guatemala, Honduras, El Salvador, Costa Rica, and Panama, among others. Upon returning to Curaçao, Ibi received the international cap from Mordy Marduro (may he rest in peace) and Doe and de Willems (may they rest in peace), allowing him access to all stadiums in the Netherlands Antilles once he reached 10 international matches.
His football career continued as he became the captain of Sithoc and played for the C.V.B. team with players like Pin Borgschot, Gein Giribaldi, Dico Dominiquez, Don Coffie, Teintje and Yancho Minguel, Shon Mi Krips, and others.
After his playing career, Ibi became a coach for Marine di Suffisant, de Koning di Jandoret, Deportivo Portugues, Jong Holland, and more. Following a successful coaching career, Ibi decided to invest his time and football knowledge in the youth, starting with the “Stormvolgels” (G.O.G.) and later organizing tournaments under the name of C.V.B. “Jeugdvoetbal,” which later became ORFIK (Curaçao youth football organization), involving around 1500 young people aged 8 to 17.
