Renato “Nato” Giovanni Anasagasti was born on September 18, 1960.

Due to his mother’s involvement in sports, Nato and his siblings started playing baseball in the courtyard of their house using a soapbox lid from “Tide” detergent as a home plate. Nato began playing baseball at the age of 8.

In 1972, Nato joined the first Little League selection of Curaçao for the Central American and Caribbean games. He started playing AA baseball at the age of 17 and retired in 2010.

Nato became a nine-time champion in Curaçao, with Wild Cats winning eight consecutive championships, seven of which Nato served as a manager/player. He also won a championship with the Royal Scorpions. Nato played for teams such as Marlboro, Santa Maria, Blue Hawks, Royal Scorpions, and Wild Cats.

He became a Double-A champion in 1989, 1991, and 1993, a home run champion in 1990, and an RBI champion in 1989 and 2000. Nato was the Most Valuable Player in 1991 and 2000, including at the 1st Dutch Caribbean Aruba and Antillean Championship in St. Maarten. He was the champion pitcher in 1999 and 2000, won the Gold Glove for the best first baseman in 1999, and the Gold Glove for the best pitcher in 2000.

In 1979, Nato got his first hit during the inauguration of the Sports Center at the Kingdom Games. A year later, he won as a pitcher in the first official game of Double-A in the Sports Center. In 1980, Nato played for the Royal Scorpions against the Wild Cats in the finals with a record-breaking audience of 13,000 people, a milestone in the history of baseball.

Throughout his career, Nato represented Curaçao in various countries, including Aruba, Puerto Rico, Venezuela, the Netherlands, Cuba, St. Maarten, the USA, Italy, Mexico, San Salvador, and Sweden.

In 2000, he received the Beto Adriana Cup for Technical Director, Senior Male Athlete from the Curaçaose Sport Federatie. Nato also received the Laurel di Oro as an exemplary player awarded by PRESDA.

The Pre-Infant Baseball League Championship was dedicated to Nato as a token of appreciation and recognition for his achievements in sports.
