English Version

Hector Asuncion Rosario is a figure in the sports chronicles since the early 1950s at La Prensa, of which he later took charge of the editorial. He introduced the annual election of 5 athletes as the first distinction for athletes every year. In the ’50s, he also started the first weekly sports program on the radio at CUROM (at that time in Fòrti on Rif).

He also started the first regular football broadcasts in Papiamentu on that station. He remained in football commentary until 1980. He is also a boxing narrator.

He started and led the first weekly sports program on television for more than ten years (sponsored by Shell). On television, he continued with the election of the 5 best athletes of the year. He wrote briefly for a sports supplement of the AMIGOE newspaper and also a column in NOBO. At one point, he was the first to comment on sports in all three media: newspaper, radio, and television.

In 1983, he started the first daily sports program on television.

In his youth, Hector Rosario practiced football, athletics, and korfball, and was part of the Independiente team that became football champions of Curaçao in 1941. Mr. Rosario was the president of the baseball champion club of that time, “Lucky Strike,” for several years, and was on the board of the Baseball Federation, presided over by the Dominican Consul at the time, Don Andres Julio Espinal.
