Geoffrey has a long trajectory in Volleyball and has been involved in practically everything that has happened in volleyball since the beginning of this sport. Geoffrey was interested in every aspect of Volleyball and excelled in each role, whether as a player for the national team, an international referee, a coach, or a local and international administrative manager. Geoffrey started his career at Lucky Masters at the age of 16 in 1957. He was part of the national team from 1959 to 1972 and participated in almost every international tournament and championship during this period. As a player, he took part in the Central American and Caribbean Games in 1966 and 1970.
Geoffrey obtained his referee diploma in 1961 and achieved the status of “International Referee Candidate” in Bucaramanga, Colombia, in 1973. In 1976, Geoffrey became the first International Referee from Curaçao and the Netherlands Antilles. He holds the distinction of being the only referee from Curaçao who officiated at the Bolivarian Games in Barquisimeto, Venezuela, in 1981. As an International Referee, Geoffrey participated in the NORCECA Championship in 1977 in Santo Domingo and the Central American and Caribbean Games in Santiago, Cuba, in 1982. His notable performance includes refereeing the men’s final between Cuba and Mexico.
For over 20 years, Geoffrey served as a coach for various clubs, including Lucky Masters, Electronics, Toyota, L&M, Olympic (women and men), and assisted several other teams in their technical preparation. In 1975, Geoffrey earned his “Coach Candidate” diploma in the Netherlands.
Geoffrey worked as a leader for various volleyball coach and referee courses in Curaçao. As a Volleyball Administrator, Geoffrey was the President of Lucky Masters for over 16 years. On three occasions, he was a member of the Board of Directors of CUVOBO/FEVOKO (Volleyball Federation Curaçao) (1963-1964, 1974-1976, 1981-1984), holding the position of President in the last two terms. From 1981-1983 and from 1998 to 2002, he was on the board of NAVOBO (Volleyball Federation of the Netherlands Antilles), and in 2001, he served on the board of CAZOVA (Caribbean Zonal Volleyball Association).
Geoffrey co-founded Youth Volleyball in 1979 and was the President of the Volleyball Commission in 1979 and 1980. He was also a member of the School Volleyball Commission for several years. During Geoffrey’s presidency, Volleyball experienced its most successful years. He was also a lecturer for A.B.O. and board management courses. For a brief period, he served on the Board of the Netherlands Antilles Olympic Committee, and from 1982 to 1999, he was a member of the board of C.S.F. Geoffrey, on various occasions, was a member of committees working on systems for the management of sports in Curaçao. Together with Frank Mathilda, he laid the groundwork for the CSF Awards Night. In Volleyball, he was the president of the organizing commission for the celebration of FeVoKo’s 8th lustrum, and on various occasions, he chaired Volleyball committees.
For many years, Geoffrey was a member of the Sports Facilities Brievengat Foundation (SDK). In 1995, Geoffrey became an Honorary Member of the Volleyball Federation Curaçao, FEVOKO. In 1997, he was installed as a Hall of Fame Member of CSF, and in March 2002, he was decorated as a Knight in the Order of Orange Nassau.
On May 28, 2012, Geoffrey launched his website “HISTORY OF VOLLEYBALL” and considered it his gift to the world of Volleyball and sports in general. Geoffrey regarded this as the greatest gift he could give to his favorite sport, VOLLEYBALL.
