Wim continued his studies at the “Academie voor Lichamelijke Opvoeding” in The Hague. At the Royal Air Force, Wim served as the head of the sports office at Vliegbasis Ypenburg. He was a physical education instructor at Haagse Academie voor Lichamelijke Opvoeding, specializing in landing techniques.
From 1979 to 2009, Wim served as a physical education teacher in Curaçao, and from 2010 to 2013, he held the position of director-general at Marnix College.
In the realm of water polo:
1973–1976: Played for the Dutch water polo team.
1974 and 1977: Participated in the European Championships.
1973 and 1978: Participated in the World Championships.
1979–2004: Served as a trainer/coach for water polo organizations in Curaçao, various Antillean selections, and Curaçao.
1979–1982: Attained a “diploma consul” in elementary landing techniques from NAZB.
1980–1984: Taught staff courses at CZB.
1986–2007: Served as an international water polo referee for FINA. Acted as a neutral referee for the Antilles in the Olympic Games of 1992 and 1996, as well as in several FINA World Championships and other international competitions.
From 1993 to 2006, Wim taught FINA courses in Cuba, El Salvador, Brazil, Canada, Jamaica, and Barbados. He was a member of the executive committee of the Association Internationale des Arbitres de Water Polo from 1994 to 1998.
Wim’s distinctions include silver and gold medals from KNZB for 75 and 125 international appearances with the Dutch national water polo team, the 1991 Plaka Meritorio from CSF for Coach of the Year, and the 2012 Ridder in de Orde van Oranje Nassau.
In 2016, Wim was inducted into the FDOK Hall of Fame.
